Our librarians have put together several activities, for a variety of challenges and levels. Complete an activity and you might unlock a more advanced one, and bragging rights, cool badges and maybe even a prize!

Adventure Begins at Your Library Outdoor Missions
We encourage you to get out and explore your neighborhood, the city, and the state through various of activities. 

Check out a Nature Backpack for a hike along the river. Use one of our Museum Passes as a family and visit some place new.  

Go to the pool, visit a friend, play in the park, stop by the Bookmobile for a free book, head to the beach to build a sandcastle are just some of the activities you can do to earn the Outdoor Mission Badge.

Complete 15 individual items in the Outdoor Mission list, you will earn a special mission pin, an extra raffle ticket and 75 points.

Adventure Begins At Your Library Program Mission

During the Adventure Begins at Your Library Reading program, come join us at the library for weekly programs such Escape Rooms, Tabletop Capers, Adventure Camp, Elementary Experiments, and Lego Quest just to name a few.
There will be special guest throughout the summer at the library. 

Complete 15 individual items in the Program Mission list, you will earn a special mission pin, an extra raffle ticket and 75 points.

Adventure Begins at Your Library Reading missions
You can be anything you want to be; go anywhere you want to explore and meet anyone in history just by reading.

This summer enjoy reading your favorite graphic novel, fiction, early reader, picture and non-fiction book.

Audiobooks count! If you are listening in the car, on your tablet or have one of our Wonderbooks - it counts as reading.  If someone else reads to you, that counts.

You can read at the beach, campsite, under a tree, at night in your bed... as long as your are reading , log those minutes and check the box in the Reading Mission Activities list to earn this year's Reading Mission badge.


Complete 15 individual items in the Reading Mission list, you will earn a special mission pin, an extra raffle ticket and 75 points.

All Together Now Photo Challenge
Do you have a neighbor who has helped you?  Do you know of a business owner who supports your community? Do you know of a special friend, or a group who illustrates or embodies the ideals of unity, diversity, kindness, or friendship?  We want to see your photos showing these admirable folks and groups.  The All Together Now Photo challenge is a program where adults and families can work 

Images are your choice and can be found anywhere in New England but they have to be photos you take, or have taken for you.  Each image is worth 10 points towards a weekly prize. There will be a different sub-theme every two weeks.

Attend Teen 2024 Summer Programs Mission
Join us for a variety of fun teen events during our Teen 2024 Adventure Begins at Your Library summer reading program.

  • Attend weekly programs to earn special teen weekly badge pins featuring exclusive artwork!
  • You are encouraged to attend any or all teen programs each week. However, only one digital badge and one pin will be awarded for each week.
  • Earn 4 weekly program badges to earn an additional 100 points toward your summer reading prize levels!


After attending a teen event, don't forget to complete the activity here on READSquared to earn your badge and pin.

Eat Around the World!

Go on a culinary adventure  around the world with the Manchester City Library! From June 17 through August 10, broaden your cooking skills and  earn points toward the Adult Summer Reading Program by cooking cuisine from around the world. Learn something new by making a dish from each of the following regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, South and Central America, Middle East, and North America. 

To earn points toward the SRP, either upload a picture of your creation to Read Squared, or show the picture to the librarian at the information desk. Including the recipe is optional but encouraged!

Milly Scavenger Hunt

Ms. Rose has put together a short 2 minute video that will be on the library's Facebook page. It feature Milly the Mill Girl.  At the end of each week's video, there will be a question.  Children can come into the children's room and tell the reference person their answer. 

If they are correct, they will earn an extra raffle ticket for that week's raffle.  You can participate every week in the Milly Scavenger Hunt, but you can only check off a week to earn the Milly Scavenger Hunt button and 75 points.

My Adventure!

This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library.  The Manchester City Library wants you to take part in a mission.  Did you go on a fantastic vacation or have a fun adventure?  We would love for you to share your adventure with us and you can win points towards a prize!

Be part of our library display!  Look for the My Adventure instructions and worksheet in your summer reading program packet, or download the worksheet.  We will display your submission sheets on our travel map.  While you’re here, check out fellow patron adventure submissions, and check out a travel guide for your next adventure.

Stanly Scavenger Hunt

Stanly, the children's room stapler has gone on an adventure and is hiding somewhere in the library. 

 Since he is small, he doesn't like heights so we know that he is not on the roof. 

Can you help find him?  If you do spot him in the library, quietly sneak away and come to the children's room reference desk.  It is okay to leave him where you saw him.  At the desk, you will fill out a raffle ticket with your name, phone number and where you saw Stanly.  Once filled out, you will place your ticket in our Nemo hat.  Weekly winners are drawn after we close on Saturday. 

Every Monday, Stanly will go off another adventure and  hide in another place.  Can you find him each week?

Remember to check off one of the week's in the check list to earn the Stanly Mission pin and 75 points.

Summer at the Ocean Scavenger Hunt

How itworks:

1. Work together with some friends and family or by yourself.

2. Find the item that matches something from the list.

3. Take a picture of it. Weekly hidden items can be found at our main library or the branch.

4. Upload the image to READsquared OR show the image to a librarian at the Information Desk and they will log thatitem as complete for you.

5. Find as many items as you can and submit them by August 20th. Every item you find gives you 10 points to put towards our weekly raffle prizes.
